Winner, Winner!

2016 Oratoracle Speech WinnerTeen Resident Wins Annual State-wide Oratorical Contest

One of our very own recently won a special contest at the 8th annual state-wide Youth Leadership Oratorical Forum and Banquet in Columbia, SC.

The topic of the speech contest was “Speaking Out Loud” and our teen girl resident (whose name is quite unique, therefore we’d like to omit it to protect her identity), chose to write and give a speech about “gaining a voice.”

According to our Education and Activities Coordination Shenita Thomas who was present at the banquet, the resident “spoke about the abuse she endured and the lack of voice she had in her home. She was well spoken and very excited about winning! She came up with this speech in almost a week’s time.”

Not only did the resident win, but she was acknowledged publicly for her awesome speech and was awarded $300 which made the feat even MORE exciting because what high school child doesn't love money?

What an incredible way to talk about overcoming past trials and tribulations; we are extremely proud of this resident and her continued growth. Way to go, C!
