Child Advocate

Responsibilities

Interviews clients with problems such as personal and family adjustments, finances, employment, food, clothing, housing, and physical and mental impairments to determine nature and degree of problem.

Secures information such as medical, psychological, and social factors contributing to client’s situation, and evaluates these and client’s capacities.

Consults with client individually, in family, or in other small groups regarding plans for meeting needs, and aids client to mobilize inner capacities and environmental resources to improve social functioning.

Helps client to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing understanding of self, personal problems, and client’s part in creating them.

Refers clients to community resources and other organizations.

Compiles records and prepares reports.

Reviews service plan and performs follow-up to determine quantity and quality of service provided client and status of client’s case.

Accesses and records client and community resource information.

Secures supplementary information such as employment, medical records, or school reports.

Determines client’s eligibility for financial assistance.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must complete the following backgrounds: SLED, Central Registry, FBI fingerprints and MVR record.

TB test required.

Direct Care Staff PT/FT

Responsibilities

The Direct Care Worker is responsible for monitoring, supervising, and assisting children on a day-to-day basis in his or her assigned program area within the shelter. This includes but is not limited to: constant surveillance of children assigned to his/her program, assure that children are clean, dressed and well groomed, maintaining a clean and safe shelter environment, adhering to established schedules and routines for children, managing children’s behavior in appropriate manner, recording observations in log book, keeping supervisor informed as to behaviors, incidents, and observations regarding the children and facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must complete the following backgrounds: SLED, Central Registry, FBI fingerprints and MVR record.

  • TB test required.

Academic Tutor/Mentor

Responsibilities

Teaches basic subjects such as reading and math, applying appropriate lesson techniques.

  • Assist residents in completing homework and other school related assignments
  • Review and sign school related materials
  • Establish communication with teachers, when required
  • Assure that residents have adequate and appropriate supplies for school.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must complete the following backgrounds: SLED, Central Registry, FBI fingerprints and MVR record.

  • TB test required.
