Emergency Shelter

Emergency Shelter

Helping Hands provides care for both male and female victims of child abuse, abandonment and/or neglect. Residents are placed at the agency from various counties throughout the state by the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) or the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). The children placed here by DSS usually include those that have been abused, abandoned and/or neglected. The children referred by DJJ include non-violent offenders. Children, ages birth to twenty-one, are given a safe, nurturing environment that promotes positive development. In promoting positive development, residents are given shelter, nutritious meals, clothing and access to educational, medical and mental health services. Residents are also registered for school or pre-school programs. While they are placed here, each child is afforded every opportunity to prosper and live an enriching and well-balanced life.
